BURGR

Your Burger, Your Way

Personal Contributions: Design, User testing and user research, wireframes, prototypes, mockups.

Software Used: Adobe XD, Adobe Illustrator

PROJECT BACKGROUND

This website was designed with a hip, young clientele in mind. BURGR is a new restaurant that wanted a simple, but cool, responsive website. They are open late, and their menu consists of totally customizable burgers, fries, and beverages.

The Problem:

BURGR needed a website that worked on all devices and that didn’t require the upkeep an app would need. They saw a market of young people who were up late, and wanted to take advantage of that market.

USER PERSONAS

BURGR wanted to attract two types of customers:

  1. Young Professionals and College Students

  2. People who were up late and wanted something delicious to eat.

YOLANDA BURGESS

A 26 year old college-educated, office manager who likes to let her hair down on the weekends. Her first real job after college is taking its toll, and although she loves it, stress release is necessary. She’s very stylish, so she’s always looking for the newest and coolest restaurants to post about on social media

GEORGE GLASS

A 19 year old college student, with an undecided major, who thinks any night is a good night to party. His grades are mediocre, and he finds himself more attracted to being social than schoolwork. His upper-middle-class family wouldn’t approve of his decisions. He’s hungry ALL THE TIME.

INITIAL DESIGNS

I love burgers, so I was really excited to get started on this project for BURGR. Here are some things I wanted to make sure the site had.

  1. A young and cool interface that screamed “late night”.

  2. A fun and easy way to completely customize your order.

  3. Clear check-out screens.

  4. A way to find and order from locations

SITEMAP

I used a sitemap this time to show how simple the navigation of this needed to be. I realized that when people are hungry they don’t want to be bogged down by screens.

WIREFRAMES

These wireframes show how minimal the app truly is. You’ll notice that a lot of the lines from the wireframes made it into the actual app.

RESEARCH PLAN AND USABILITY STUDY TAKEAWAYS

I tested this app on college-aged students to figure out how they responded to the navigation.

  • Users found the navigation easy

  • Users were excited about the concept of the restaurant

  • Users didn’t really understand the website, when they prefer and app.

MOCKUP

BURGR wanted a website, so I designed that, but I also did a mockup of the app home screen, to give them an idea of what customers might want. Visually I went with a minimal, line-based, neon feel. This seemed to align with BURGR’s late-night needs.

PROTOTYPE

The link below will give you access to the artspace I used to give you a feel for the restaurant and a clear voice. It really captures the youthful, going out, party vibes a restaurant like BURGR is capitalizing on. Eat Up!

THE SOLUTION

By using bright colors, simple design, and easy navigation, I was able to bring the BURGR site to life. This look and feel attacks younger clients, and the neon definitely says “I’m up late and I’m hungry.” The burger customization is the highlight of this site, just after the voice of the company. Yum!
